HUAWEI LTE CPE B593 4G Router Installation and Firmware Upgrade

HUAWEI B593 4G LTE Router Installation--Quick guide to get online with 4G router   1)    You should start by inserting the SIM card and then plug the power adapter to the B593 4G router. SIM card must be inserted on the right side when looking at the front of the router. You can see how the SIM card slot in the LTE CPE B593. Power plug must be inserted behind the router.

 

2) Now you need to connect the router to your computer via wireless network (WiFi). You will find the router's name and network code on the sticker behind the router. WLAN - Name (SSID) is the router's name and WLAN - Key (WPA/WPA2) is the router's wireless network password. When you first connect the router via WiFi, it would be necessary to enter the WLAN key and get connected. If you experience problems connecting to the router with the information on the back of the router, this information may be changed. Press reset on the side of the router with a ball pen for about 20 seconds and try again.  

   

3) Once connected, open your Internet browser (eg Internet Explorer, chrome or Safari) and in the address bar, type the router's address http://192.168.1.1 . It’s the device website on the label.  

 

 

 

 

The default language is English, but you can choose your preferred language. Username is admin and password admin in lowercase. You can also find both the router's address and password on the sticker behind the router.  


4) The router will ask you to change the password when you login. You can ignore it. Your router is already secured with the unique network code that you entered earlier in order to connect to the router.  


5) Now select Setup Wizard in the left menu.   You must validate your PIN to the SIM card. You will find PIN 1 on the frame, you took the SIM card out of the scrape area. Then click Validate. Tick the Enable next to Save my PIN and press Next. Please note that the router stores the PIN code for the SIM card. Put a new SIM card in the router at a time; enter the PIN code for the new SIM card in the same way.  

 

But if you use unlocked B593 Router, it’s unnecessary to do this. 4GLTEMALL.com is selling the unlocked B593 Router.  

 

6) You do not need to change anything in the next section called Internet. Network mode is by default to Auto and Connection Mode to Always On. Please note that “LTE Only" means "4G Only" and "WCDMA only" means "3G only" in Network mode. You can try to isolate the signal to one of them if you wish. If you set it in Auto as recommended, the router will always try to use 4G as a primary connection. Press Next.  

   

7) You do not need to change anything in the next section called WLAN . If you want to call your router something other than WLAN1-xxxx , it's SSID , you need to change. We do not recommend that you do, and then you will always be able to find the router's name on the back of the router if you do not change it. Press Next.  

 

8) We do not recommend that you change the following in the next point WLAN Security. Network code field is WPA with pre-shared key. This code is already unique and you should only use it once when you connect to the router for the first time on your computer or your mobile. You will also be able to find the network code on the back of the router if you ever need it again later. If you want to change it anyway, you must enter a code on minimum 8 characters and press Next. Otherwise, press the Next without changing the information below.

       

9) Now press Submit and your router will reboot and you will be on the internet.  

 

10) Repeat point 2 for all devices to connect with the Internet.    


Color Codes  

Color Coding Mode on the front of the router

The purple color means that the router lacks the PIN. 

The blue color means that you are on 4G. 

The green color means that you are on 3G.

 

Firmware upgrade   --- Quick Guide for upgrade

1)  Download the latest HUAWEI B593u-12 firmware upgrade>  (. zip 26 Mb)      

2) Save the file to your desktop and unzip the file when you are finished.      

3) Open your browser and log into your router via 192.168.1.1

Username: admin

Password: admin (lower case)    

4) Select S ystem > Upgrade select tar.  

(The file you just extracted from the zip. file)> press Upgrade, then wait for few minutes, the system will auto upgrade the firmware of the HUAWEI B593u-12.          

 

These steps are also usable for HUAWEI B593s-22 and HUAWEI B593 other models, but the firmware varies.

The Speedport II with the new "Call & Surf via Funk" tariffs was launched in early December 2012 by Telekom. The router in LTE category 3 mode provides up to 100 Mbps download speed and capacity of 50 Mbps in upload. In addition, the Speedport II LTE is backward with 3G network, ie UMTS and HSPA (including DC-HSPA+). Earlier, the Telekom supplied from two different hardware versions, depending on what had just technically available at the customer network. A further improvement to the old port speed is the WLAN module. The new Speedport II now supports the latest "N" standard. Thus, home networks can reach via radio with up to 300 Mbit/s speed. There are also improvements in range and Wi-Fi reception. This is according to the manual, in confined spaces, up to 30 meters or outside up to 300 meters. There are 4 RJ45 ports with up to 100 Mbps. Under the white label, it indicates the manufacturer model is Huawei router with the ID "B593u-12".      


Fit for LTE Network in Europe     The previous Speedport LTE dominated only in the band of 800 MHz; the second version is now much more flexible. Besides the already mentioned backward compatibility, LTE band 7/20 (1800 and 2600MHz) is supported. Therefore, the Telekom in some regions also provide up to 100 Mbps data rate by Call & Surf via Funk (L) for the first time.  

   


Unlike the SPEEDBOX    

 

Both variants for Telekom 4G Router are confusingly similar, not only on the name. Technically, there is also almost identical design. But: When Speedport II is GSM (2G) not connected, so that the Call & Surf tariffs only run via 3G or 4G.  The Speedport LTE II is in white, while the Speedbox is packed in a black case.

Huawei B593 = Telekom Speedbox LTE  

 

As usual, the routers for Telekom and Vodafone are in difference label. To identify the devices, the appearance of the router is usually slightly modified (eg, color or some ports) and the logo of the mobile provider is customized for respect providers. The Speedbox LTE is in black color like Speedport LTE, while Vodafone B2000 is in white. But actually, they are the same model from HUAWEI B593, more accurately, the model number is B593u-12 LTE CPE.  From the label on the back of the router, we can see the details.    


Improvements  

 

The previous model Speedport LTE still belongs to the first Generation of LTE routers which were available in late 2010. Unfortunately, accordingly to the feedback from users, the Speedport LTE is not successful 4G equipment. LTE terminals were still scarce; therefore it had to be functional. The new version Speedbox LTE finally brings long overdue with new features and improvements.  

 

 

First, the Speedbox is also backward compatible with 3G and 2G networks. This is important in case LTE is not available around. This features help Speedbox automatically revert to the next fastest standard. Previously, customers had to unfortunately live with a total failure, because the fall-back function was not anticipated at the Speedport. In addition, the router B593u-12 now dominates the LTE frequency bands at 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz. The predecessor was only designed for LTE800, ie designed for rural areas. The maximum data rate of HUAWEI B593u-12 is doubled to 100 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s for upload. Beyond is a new USB port and connection for phones. Both analog telephone and VOIP should be possible.      

 

 

Since, as already mentioned, the old Speedport is only capable of a wireless standard that Telekom provides far from two different modes. When choosing between the "Speedport LTE" and "Speedport HSPA", the router Speedbox will choose depending on which standard is more available to the customer. This features is smart for the users who are not familiar with 4G Routers.

The Speedbox is available in the Telekom retail stores and online store www.4gltemall.com without LTE contracts. Many users prefer unlocked Speedbox, or more honestly, they would choose the factory model HUAWEI B593u-12 because they are just logo or appearance difference, functions are all the same and original factory model is SIM free for any operators.

Technically speaking, the Huawei B390s-2 is in the B1000 series. In the industry it is common to "brand" hardware from original manufacturers but with their own logo on the appearance. Also the appearance may vary slightly from the "original". The integrated 4G-LTE modem B1000 is only compatible with the LTE band around 800 MHz. More specifically, it can on the band of 832 MHz - 862 MHz send (upload) and in the band of 791 MHz - 821 MHz receive (download).The supported bandwidth is 10 MHz. So the router is only unique for rural use up to 50 Mbit/s and is not suited for urban use. The chipset is "HiSilicon" (Hi6910), which is HUAWEI own chipset.  

 

 

 


Telephone:

 

Unfortunately, the router does not have a PBX. In the LTE tariffs from Vodafone, there is no telephone available, which is of course no problem. However, the provider also offers complete packages with phone line and optionally with fixed flat rate. Customers who order the version with telephone, will note get the B1000. Alternatively, a pure LTE router together with a conventional DSL router is supplied, which is named Vodafone B2000. The Vodafone B2000 is upgraded from B1000, which is not only better in network coverage, but also the functions and performance.  

 


LAN & wireless network properties:

 

The B1000 provides 4 LAN ports and of course Wi-Fi functionality for setting up a home network. The wireless network provided can be operated with standard 802.11b and 802.11g. With up to 54 Mbps integrated into the network, it can therefore support a maximum of 32 devices wirelessly (eg, laptop, internet radio). The latest "N" standard is not supported yet, which is a shame. Neither dominates the B1000 the spark in WLAN operation at 5 GHz. The LTE B2000 Router provides significantly more. And WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption is possible options.

The Vodafone B1000 is curiously almost twice as heavy as the technically virtually identical Telekom Speedport LTE. The weight is 900 grams, if user worry about the place to lay this device, here are the exact dimensions: 177 x 193 x 34 mm (width x height x depth).

B2000 = Huawei B593  

 

 

Following the Vodafone B1000, B2000 is with improved hardware based on support from the Chinese manufacturer Huawei. The appearance of B2000 looks like the " Speedbox LTE "by Telekom, they are both from the original model Huawei B593u-12. With the demand from the operator, they adapted to the design for the respective mobile provider and logo. Thus, the B2000 from Vodafone comes in a white gown, while Telekom is focusing on noble black.  

 

   


More power with LTE  

 

 

First, the positive features with improved LTE attract eyes. While the B1000 "only" supported up to 50 Mbit/s, the B2000 now offers full support of up to 100 Mbps download speed and 50 Mbps upload transmission. The data is based on perfect network reception conditions. Huawei has also broadened the network support on Vodafone B2000. Instead of only on the LTE800 band, the B2000 can now also be used for LTE 2.6GHz (1.8 GHz would possibly be available after later firmware update). With backward compatible with 3G or 2G networks, when LTE is not available, it switches to HSPA, UMST, GSM or necessary. But for the B1000, this feature was not yet operational. Two external antennas can be connected via SMA connector to B2000 in case that the local reception conditions are not sufficient. A new feature is the telephone support, which is not supported by B1000.

How to Configure and Setup HUAWEI B890 LTE Wireless Gateway

HUAWEI 4G LTE Gateways are new for most of the users, but most of them are user-friendly and users don’t need many steps to configure. In most cases, the devices would automatically setup and connects to networks. Some users may want to set some parameters per their preference. Below is the user guide for your reference.   How to configure your terminal Intelligent 4G LTE Gateway Huawei B890    A. Insert your SIM card To take advantage of 4G LTE speeds on your providers’ network, you must use a 4G SIM card.
  1. Plug the power cable
  2. Insert the SIM card to the SIM card slot.
  3. Click the power button
  4. The device will turn itself.
  B. After Connect to your computer to HUAWEI B890 4G LTE Smart Hub, you can login to HUAWEI B890 through wireless connection The Intelligent Terminal Huawei B890 LTE Gateway can connect up to 32 wireless devices.
  1. Locate the sticky under your HUAWEI B890.
  2. Locate the SSID and WIFI Key line on the sticker.
  3. Use the information found on the sticker to connect your wireless devices.
  C. Connect to Smart Hub for the first time and change the password Once the Intelligent Terminal 4G LTE Huawei B890 is connected to your computer, log in and change the default password. The Smart Hub require change password the first time you connect.
  1. From your computer, open your Web browser.
  2. Type http://huawei.smarthub in the address bar.
  3. Box Username default should be “admin”.
  4. Type the password for the Admin account.  (NOTE: The default password is admin.)
  5. Press Enter or click Ok.
  6. Window Change the password of the connection opening appears.
  7. Enter the current password.
  8. Enter a new password.
  9. Confirm the password.
  10. Click Apply.
  D. Configure your HUAWEI B890 LTE Wireless Gateway Use the setup wizard to help you configure the Intelligent Terminal HUAWEI B890 4G Router.
  1. From your computer, open your Web browser .
  2. Type http://huawei.smarthub in the address bar.
  3. Box Username default should be admin.
  4. Type the password for the Admin account.
  5. Press Enter or click Ok.
  6. Click on Settings
  7. In the left column, click Quick Setup.
  8. If necessary, adjust the time zone on the page Welcome to the Quick Start Wizard. (NOTE: It is recommended to keep other default settings)
  9. Click Next
  10. The screen Configure the profile appears. (Make sure you type the right APN for your SIM card provider. NOTE: Keep the other default settings.)
  11. Click Next. .
  12. The screen Configure the WLAN setting appears. You can change the box SSID name, and enter the name you want to identify your network. It is recommended to keep SSID Broadcast to Enable.
  13. Click Next
  14. The screen Configure the WLAN setting appears. Select the type of authentication. (NOTE: It is recommended to use WPA2-PSK). Select the encryption method. (NOTE: It is recommended to use TKIP + AES.) Enter your WPA pre-shared key.
  15. Click Next
  16. Check your settings and click Finish to confirm.

ZTE MF28B Rogers LTE Rocket Hub VS ZTE MF28G 4G LTE Router

As one of the main 4G LTE telecommunication equipment vendor, ZTE has presented many 4G LTE router to public, and most of them are already for operators' contract plan. Unlike Huawei B593 4G LTE CPE many modification models, each of ZTE 4G LTE routers has specific modem name, even though they look almost same in appearance.      

ZTE 4G LTE routers are designed in same appearance model, but they are not completely the same in some aspects.  Today, we will have a review of the difference between ZTE MF28B and MF28G 4G LTE Router.  

 

Network Bands  

Most of the routers with appearance differ on the network bands. They are for different operators. ZTE MF28B Router is for Canadian operator Rogers, and it's also called Rogers LTE Rocket Hub, but MF28B Hub could support single LTE band 7 (2600MHz), 3G HSPA (850/1900MHz) network is backward. As we can, it mainly for 3G network in North America.    

ZTE MF28G LTE Router is more powerful, it supports LTE dual-mode (TDD & FDD), it could support 4G TDD band 38 & band 40 (2300/2600MHz) and FDD band 7 & band 20 (800/2600). And ZTE MF28G supports 3G UMTS 900/2100MHz. ZTE MF880 4G LTE USB dongle could support these bands.   So unlocked ZTE MF28G could work with more 4G operators and in some countries, MF28G could replace MF28B.    

Data Rate Speed    

ZTE MF28B and MF28G could both reach peak downlink speed up to 100Mbps and uplink speed to 50Mbps on 4G FDD network. Simultaneously, MF28G could reach peak downlink up to 68Mbps and uplink speed to 17Mbps when working on TDD networks.  

 

Interfaces    

There are some adjustments in the bodies of the two ZTE LTE routers. MF28B has only 4 Ethernet ports (RJ45) while MF28G has 4 Ethernet. Ports, 2 RJ11 ports for telephone, and one USB 2.0 host port. So MF28G could support telephone and SD files sharing, but MF28B cannot.    

Logo    

Sometimes, the logo on the router may vary according to operators. And the firmware may also be customized for operators. As we can see, the Rogers LTE Hub ZTE MF28B has Rogers’s logo on it and the forms are version is also with Rogers logo.      

Other features of the routers are almost the same, to conclude, Unlocked ZTE MF28G is powerful when roaming globally. In certain countries, MF28B may be reliable on 3G networks.
